Hemodialysis and and peritoneal dialysis, treatments for kidney failure, are administered to dialysis patients. Hemodialysis is also offered to people with sudden drops in kidney function (acute renal failure). Acute renal failure may lead to permanent loss of kidney function; however, it is often reversible.
