Centra Southside Community Hospital has been named as one of the Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems in the country by H&HN (Hospitals & Health Networks) magazine. The Farmville-based hospital is the only hospital in the Farmville/Richmond region to have earned the award. The hospital was recognized as one of the top 100 most wired hospitals in the nation in the July issue of the magazine, the journal of the American Hospital Association. The magazine surveys health care systems annually on the effective use of information technology in achieving clinical and operational excellence. CSCH had 0% Healthcare Associated MRSA Infections for 2009 VHA Inc. recently recognized 13 hospitals in its l Atlantic region for their efforts to improve patient care and reduce the incidence of hospital-acquired infections, specifically methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections, which are difficult and expensive to treat if they develop. In late 2007, CEOs from the VHA hospitals in the Central Atlantic region, which includes member hospitals in D.C., North Carolina, Maryland, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Eastern Tennessee, established a collective, aggressive goal to reduce the incidence of MRSA infections by  80 percent in three years. By working with VHA, the group had reduced their MRSA infections by 39 percent by the end of 2009. Some participating hospitals have already achieved or are close to achieving the final goal.
